College Football Playoff Rankings Released

Committee has Vanderbilt at No. 16

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The College Football Playoff Committee revealed its first rankings and top-12 team projections of 2025, including Vanderbilt at No. 16 on Tuesday night in a special show on ESPN.

Vanderbilt’s offense has produced at a historic level this season, sitting 13th nationally in scoring offense at 37.6 points per game through nine contests. In program history, the Commodores have only finished three seasons with a scoring average better than 40 points: 1904, 1905 and 1915. Vanderbilt’s offense ranks in the top 25 nationally in five major categories. The Dores lead the SEC in third down conversions, rank second in tackles for loss allowed and team passing efficiency and third in scoring offense. With 70 and 55 points in back-to-back contests vs. Georgia State and Utah State, Vanderbilt produced consecutive games with 50-plus points for the first time since 1915.

The offense is led by quarterback Diego Pavia, who sits 19th in the country and fourth in the SEC with 18 passing touchdowns. He ranks 16th nationally in passing efficiency (162.0), 15th in completion percentage (69.2), ninth in points responsible for with 146, 22nd in total offense with 284.9 yards of production per game and 23rd in yards per pass attempt at 8.6.

Vanderbilt rose to No. 9 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the AFCA Coaches Poll following its victory over Missouri in Week 9 as the Commodores broke into the top 10 in the AP Poll for the first time since 1947 and just the fifth time in program history. It was also Vandy’s highest ranking since reaching No. 7 in 1937. The Dores have wins over three top-15 teams for the first time in program history, matching the program’s total number of victories over nationally-ranked opponents from the previous 11 seasons combined. Vanderbilt has appeared in the AP Poll each of the last seven weeks, marking the first time in program history the Dores have been ranked more than four weeks in a single season.

The Commodores return to FirstBank Stadium to host Auburn in front of a sell-out crowd on Saturday at 3 p.m. on SEC Network.
